The Nothing Syndrome
We have a short series at church right now based on "Nothing." Here are the video headers that I made for the iTunes and website sermons. As part of the package for small groups, we have discussion questions for each teaching. (Of course, we have to make it in Japanese as well!)
Here are the discussion questions for the first series, "Everything is Nothing" from Ecclesiasties 1:1-14. 'All is vanity, vanity of vanities. All is worthless and a chasing after the wind.'
1. Take a few minutes and make a short list of some of the most valuable things in
your life. Now discuss with others in your Small Group how you view those things
in regards to your relationship with God.
2. Why do you think the Teacher refers to everything as vanities of vanities and a
chasing after the wind? What does vanity have to do with it?
3. What are some New Testament passages that reflect the Teacher’s teaching?
Read Matthew 6:19, Luke 16:19-31 and 18:18-27 and James 1:9-11 and 3:16.
There are many passages that one can apply to this teaching. For example Luke
6:46-49, the wise and foolish builders. Make a list of teachings that apply.
In short, without God, everything in your life is senseless, useless and waste. Without God, everything is nothing.
I'm still working on questions for the second sermon (all sermons by Pastor Dennis Folds).
Might post those when I am finished, might not. Let me know if you want to see them and what you think of the questions, which we have tried to keep fairly simple.
