More of Nothing!

Small Group Discussion Questions for "The Nothing Syndrome" series at TBC:

1. Why do you do the dishes for your family? Why do put up with so many piles of dirty clothes from your children? Why do you help out a friend? What reward is there? What do you get out of it?

2. Read the ancient Hebrew prayer, the Shema Israel found in Deuteronomy 6:4,5. It is also the premiere law according to Christ (Matt. 22:36,37). The prayer is the Law and the reason: God is God and that is sufficient. How might we view the Lord differently in light of this simple prayer/law?

3. Jesus says, “Where your treasure is, there your heart is also.” (Luke 12:34) Augustine once wrote that “He who has God and everything else has no more than he who has God only.” Why do you serve God?

4. Have different members of your group read aloud Daniel 8:17, Ezekiel 1:28 and Isaiah 6:2-5. How have others reacted when they came into the presence of the Lord’s holiness? How does this relate to our study in “Serving God for Nothing?”

When we meet the Lord, we will all realize that He is the only “reality” and apart from Him, everything, including ourselves, is nothing. Yet God seeks a relationship with you; He loves you enough to give His own Son unto death. Isn’t a personal, loving relationship with the Creator of the Universe enough reason to serve, to give, to live for Him? Think of ways in which to return your love of God starting in your home right now (or on the train on your way back.)

For extra reading: C.S. Lewis' "The Weight of Glory"

Lemme know what you think (I know you haven't heard the series, but I figure you can read the books they come from, ie.Ecclesiasties and Job.)
