I was listening to a podcast of last week’s Stand to Reason, which I highly recommend, and Greg was relaying some advice he gave to someone who asked him how to get into the apologetics business as a career. He offered three basic ways in: start your own organisation, join an existing organisation, or become an academic. But, he said, always remember that you don’t have to wait until you are getting paid to do this kind of work – he said we should bloom where we are planted. In other words, make the most of the opportunities you have where you are right now! Isn’t that great advice? How often do we allow an opportunity to witness to someone pass us by? The workmates we are with all day every day, the plumber who comes to fix our pipes, the checkout girl (or guy!) at the supermarket –these are all places where we are given opportunities to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20), and most of the time, if our eyes are open, we will find that the other person gives us an opening. We just have to step into it! So, next time you are wondering about the best way to make an impact for the Kingdom, remember – bloom where you’re planted!
