So. Obama is the new man at the helm of the US, and I can’t help but feel saddened by that (when my wife heard she said she felt a bit ill...). Not because he’s black. That has never been an issue for us, or because of his age or inexperience. Its his plans that worry us. He’s said he wants to “fundamentally change America” and I think if he goes ahead with the abortion and embryonic stem cell research plans he had before the election we have a pretty good idea how America will change – not, it seems, for the better!
Exit polls claim that most people voted for the candidate they think has the strongest economic policy, and that saddened me a bit too. Its sad that people are more concerned about their hip pocket than the innocent lives who will be extinguished as a result of FOCA and the other laws Obama has pledged to bring in. (FOCA is possibly the most anti-life piece of legislation EVER, including the eugenics and racial purging laws of Nazi Germany! Yes, I mean it! Under FOCA, pro-life doctors and nurses will be FORCED to carry out abortions – they can no longer make a conscience decision not to! This is not Freedom of Choice!)
So I guess the question we have to ask ourselves as Christians is “what now?” Clearly the Bible tells us that governments are put there by God to govern man, and that we should pray for our leaders, so that is what I will do (even though as an Australian he’s not my leader). I will pray that the conviction of the Lord comes to rest on him so heavily that his heart will not permit him to carry out his promises. I will pray that those around him who have influence in his life (especially his wife) will help him to see the evils this bill will allow. I will pray that he realises, before its too late, that what he is endorsing is murder, plain and simple. I will pray. Will you pray with me?

Yes, indeed. I was very deeply distressed to hear Obama's plans for America. :( We will see how this all ends, but for some reason, I really don't think it will be pretty.
I just got back from the States. I was there for the better part of two weeks and it just happened to fall on Super Tuesday. I vote by absentee ballot living in Japan, so the day was merely a spectator event for me. I was pretty saddened though by the results.
Truth is I wasn't wild about either candidate, but surely between the two, I choose the one bearing some symblance of moral rectitude.
President-elect Obama speaks very well and has a great demeanor - make no mistake two very big and important things for a job 50+% of which falls under a heading of "PR." A smile can go a long way in keeping the peace. But it hardly goes far enough.
Yes, he has promised some awful things. Things that seem to be meant for, well, honestly, the minorty. He has also suggested some measures that are quite blatantly Marxist. Now Marx had a lot to say, but it only ever looked good on paper. And truthfully, the ideas presented only work in a context of communism, a system that rejects religion (but really is one itself). His FOCA plans then do not surprise me when I know of his economic ideas.
There is much to be said here. Much of it has already been said by others, some by DaveE or myself in previous posts.
The bare bones of it is something different though. We will, if we are Christian, have to wait and see what Mr. Obama does. As DaveE says, we are under God, so let us pray continually for our leaders - whether we like the ideas propsed or not. As has been said before, we must be accepting of all persons. We must not be so accepting of ideas or actions.
semblance, not symblance.... sorry. can't spell...
but that isn't really the word i was looking for anyway - i dont mean to imply that Senator McCain only APPEARS to have moral rectitude. I know he does.
chalk it up to jetlag? Sorry about that Senator.
